Welcome to my website. My name is Sheila Koren. I am a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, located in San Francisco. I have been practicing psychotherapy for over twenty years and involved in the social service/social justice world even longer than that. I like to think of myself as a therapist for the 99% as I’ve been dedicated for decades to helping people deal with the interface among the personal, economic and political realities of our lives. I believe that our senses of self and the quality of our relationships are strongly influenced by not only our families of origin but also by the class, educational, ethnic, racial and other influences in our lives. By exploring and understanding the mutifaceted social dynamics at work in our development, we can often discover hidden parts of ourselves seeking nourishment and care. We can also come to understand inner conflicts in ways that can lead to both more internal and external peace and cooperation. My aim is to help people find their most meaningful and happiest place in the world, to relate more successfully with one another, and to enhance each client’s sense of self worth, community and creative efficacy.
I am often the therapist of choice for people who want informality of style without compromise of professionalism. I’m dedicated to helping my clients feel better about themselves, improve their relationships, identify and pursue their soul-serving goals. I am passionate about helping each individual to become his or her most authentic self, to communicate effectively and respectfully with others, and to find meaningful work and recreational/creative activity. |
